Description

The procreative cooperation between Friedensreich Hundertwasser and the illustrator Barbato in Spinea went on. The combination of both photolithography and silkscreen had proven its value. Technically a photolithography made from four colours (yellow, blue, red, black) - showing the head of a seaman smoking his pipe - was enlarged on a zinc panel. From this master the basis was printed. Parts of this reproduction where then overprinted in white (silkscreen) in a revised form: the middle of the face, the smoke, and the elongation of the cap to top. One foil was repainted after the other and printed as silkscreen. Barbato kept precise records: in the end it had taken 81 working days for the print; the sample prints took them 21 days and the artist himself was working for 21 days in the studio in Spinea.
