Description of the work of art: An invitation from Volker Huber to Hundertwasser to contribute a piece to a folio, seemed to be quite simple at first: Alberto della Vecchia suggested to develop a silkcut from a watercolour of the year 1954 painted during his jaundice in the Ospedale di Santo Spitito in Rome titled “Head With White Windows”. From the given amount of the edition of 10000 originated something very different then, something unique. The multiplicity of sieves and plates from the newly revised piece, that hardly had anything in common with the model proved to make possible an almost never ending variety of colours. The idea to produce 10000 different variants, therefore one of each composition of colour fascinated the artist. It was like the fulfilment of his wished imagination of graphic, to create as many pieces as possible as a unicate to be able to distribute them to a lot of people.

2000 Hundertwasser dies on Saturday, February 19th, in the Pacific, on board of Queen Elizabeth II from a heart attack. According to his wish he is being buried in harmony with nature on his land in New Zealand, in the Garden of the Happy Deads, under a tulip tree. |
